Dawid Scumwalski vv. Guillermo Pizarro is a well-known sound engineer and a pure talent when it comes to composing noise. Clever use of panning, brilliant sound quality, excellent. It starts with all sorts of tape-based gnarly sounds and high frequency until it finally breaks down into pure noise. Wonderful release, albeit much too brief.

about

Released through Washing Machine Tapes as part of the Natural Disaster Series - washingmachinetapes.bandcamp.com/album/natural-disasters-vi

Avalanche - a rapid flow of snow down a slope, such as a hill or mountain.

For my portion of the track I took inspiration from the 1962 Ranrahirca avalanche and 1970 Huascarán avalanche in Peru that claimed the lives of 34,000+ people and caused the destruction of over 10 villages.

The recording consists of blown out field recordings of avalanches, some of my own field recordings and foley sounds, old newsreel audio from the two events cut up and fed through a califone tape recorder which was then further manipulated in my DAW, Alchemy, Spitfire Audio and Heavyocity for the drones and sub elements and shaker box/contact mic textures.

Equipment List:
Alchemy, Spitfire Audio, Heavyocity Gravity, Verdant Weapons Dead Mans Line, Pedals, Zoom H4n, Califone Cassette Recorder

The money from cassette tape purchases will be donated and matched by myself to CARE Peru. Both Washing Machine Tapes and Flesh Shuddering have graciously donated copies of the tape for this cause.

The Peruvian location of this American organization creates programs that serve to empower poor communities in Peru to exercise their rights. These programs work to empower women, indigenous groups and rural populations.

This organization helps to increase household income, reduce malnutrition, bring educational improvements, and improve access to water and sanitation, among others.

According to the UNDP, eight out of 10 people living in extreme poverty conditions in Peru live in rural areas. These Peruvian organizations use different approaches in order to eradicate poverty in both urban and rural areas.
