Luka was our sweet caring man cat that was very much a “mama cat”. He was a beautiful, soft, flame-point Siamese with a scratchy meow. Found as a tiny stray in a barn, they thought he was a tiny bunny until picking him up and realizing he was just a kitten. It wasn’t until he reached the vet that they realized what a scrappy little guy he was. Luka had been eating pine needles to stay alive because he was separated from his family. From then on that little guy became a part of our family. He was bottle fed and cared for by my sister and her friends at her office. He grew up to be the most loving but nervous cat. His bright blue eyes were always kind and he took care of all our other pets as a good mama should.

As an old man he began to lose a lot of weight and couldn’t keep food down any longer. We had to give him an IV of saline to keep him hydrated every few days and coax him to eat even a bit of food. We tragically lost him to kidney failure in 2015.

Carter was a simple man cat, very much a gentle soul. He was mischievous, always playing with cabinet doors, splashing in the water bowl and sharpening his nails on whatever he could reach. He had a very young soul and relied a lot on our other cats for his care. When he was a small kitten his back legs were caught in a rabbit’s snare and required a lot of care in order to heal. He eventually grew stronger, the swelling went down and his legs began to heal. Although he walked like a bunny because of the way his bones healed, he lived his life to the fullest in every way. When he joined our family he was the kind soul we needed, we got him soon after losing our father suddenly.
About a year and a half after losing Luka, Carter began to eat less and less. We learned he had a very fast moving form of lymphoma and in less than a month we lost him.

On March 29th I learned that an old friend of mine from back home had passed away. Tony was a fellow gear enthusiast and worked at a guitar shop in Hagerstown, MD that I would go to when I was still living in that area. I unfortunately haven’t seen him in many years, though I was at least able follow his work with his screamo band eyelet, which I recommend you check out.

The last time I did see him was to pick up my Mesa/Boogie Mark IV amp from his store after having some routine maintenance done. To this day, the amp is still running well even after heavy use during shows, traveling, recording and touring. Realizing this, I figured it would be best to use the amp as my sound source for his track. I started the track with a close up recording of me removing the amps front panel. From there I used the amps internal, natural mechanical sounds and processed it with effects for the main drones. I also used an electromagnetic sensor to pick up sounds from the amps EM field for additional textures. The track ends with the closing up of the amps cover. As a story line, I like to think of it like opening the cover released all these powerful sounds before being closed up again and allowed to rest.

Tony was a really cool dude and I wish I could have spent more time with him nerding out over music and gear. You’ll be missed.
